Mackenzie Houldson — President’s Address

I’m very sorry that our gathering this year has to be through screens rather than in person, but knowing we’re all together in spirit matters just the same. I would like to thank the outgoing Drama Club President, Sophie True, for her impeccable leadership and drive that has held this club together like glue. Her kindness, talent, and guidance is unparalleled, and I’m so thankful to have learned under her as a fellow executive board member this past year. Thank you all for your support and patience during this unprecedented time as well. Knowing the club can still function and stay connected during a global pandemic shows just how strong and connected this amazing group of people is. Every single one of you, whether you are a student, parent, mentor, former student, or other supporter, has an impact on the club and helps make it the special home that it is. Thank you also to all of the seniors for your leadership and influence over the past four years. You are all beautiful people with incredible futures in front of you, and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish.

As Drama Club President during the 2020-2021 year, I plan on upholding many old and time-honored aspects of Drama Club, while introducing new ones as well in order to maintain the atmosphere it has always had. As I mentioned in my campaign speech, there are many activities that we unfortunately have not had the opportunity to experience this year due to school closure, such as the Super Smash Bros. Tournament, Cabaret, Murder Mystery, and more. These are just a few activities that I hope to make a reality over the next year, along with past events such as a car wash and a back-to-school picnic. Events such as ones I have mentioned can bring everyone together and unite everyone under the common goal of either raising money for Drama Club or making it a better place. We all need each other now more than ever.

The last few months have been sheer insanity for everyone. Trying to fight into the light in a time of darkness isn’t easy. The friendship, camaraderie and community that this amazing group of people provides gives part of the light we need. All of you make this club a very special place, just by being a part of it. You are all so very unique and incredible, making the heart and soul of drama. We will get through this together.

Working with all of you these past two years has been a blessing. I can’t thank you all enough for this opportunity, and I am honored to lead our club as President. I look forward to working with each and every one of you this coming year to improve Drama Club and maintain the warm environment that makes it such a special place. If there’s anything you need, any questions or concerns, or anything at all, please know that I am here to listen. All of your feelings and opinions deserve to be heard. Thank you again for this opportunity. I cherish all the memories, and I can’t wait for future ones to come. I hope to see you all soon!
